In loving memory of Lynda Hardern, you can shed tears that she is gone or you can smile because she has lived. She spent over 30 years looking out every day across her garden onto this beautiful stretch of canal with a stone snake bridge. The passing longboats were always waved to and the local ducks and occasional swan came running up the garden at the sound of the back door opening, to be fed with bread. Missed but not forgotten!

Roy campaigned and helped raise awareness for the need to provide improved access at Postle's Bridge to enable members of the public with prams, wheelchairs, disability scooters and bicycles to have better access along the towpath. My late wife and I loved the Huddersfield Narrow and passed Standedge Tunnel four or five times in Slipalong. Mercifully only once in the old towed system! The reward that day was our first experience of Rag Puddings from the Diggle chip shop. We collected TWO bicycles on our prop at the last but one lock on the east side, the help we had from the staff was outstanding and successful, it did delay their Saturday nights out though. It is hard going but so well worth it.

A dedication to Dave Wilbur who spent most of his boating life on the Ashby canal. In the latter years we found our haven just after bridge 56 between Shackerstone and Snarestone. We would untie our boat on a Friday evening I would walk with our dog and Dave would be in his favourite place on the tiller. We would moor there, get the chairs out with a glass of wine and a beer, and unwind. Thankyou for those memories Dave and for all our boating adventures.
